This journal ended up on PostSecret

I guess its not a secret anymore...

Its strange to have a connection to something on PostSecret...and to not just be a voyer into someone elses demons.

I thought I'd give you guys a page, something I've been working on lately and wish you all a happy holidays.

This piece is listed as one of those pages in my book as just being visually something, not relative to anything, but thats kind of a lie. The piece was mildly about the guy I was involved with, but not really. Its half about being close to someone and love over time and its half just visually nice to look at. Whichever.

So I just finished up my first semester of Sculptural Studies I and in it I ended up making a stop motion film. I posted it on YouTube, so you all can check it out!

And a Happy Holidays to everyone!

PS: I have a few pages left I can give you guys before I run out of scanned pages. When I get back to school after break I'll do my best to remember to scan some more pages to give to you guys. I'm gonna do my best to stay somewhat regular with this journal come the new year, but we all know how much water my promises hold. heh.

I know, I know. I said I'd re-strt updates over a month ago and here we are...neck deep in October and still no updates! For that I am sorry...but I wasn't aware of how hectic my sophmore year was going to be! Oh well.

But I am not posting empty handed! I have two (not one, but two!) cellphone pics for you guys!

My summer job:

I spent the majority of my summer being a cash register bitch at a Deli down the shore. Most of my co-workers were Russian...which was fun and really annoying at the same time. This is my view of the Deli from my lovely (horrible), well behaved (whorish) cash register.

My weekend in NYC:

After I finished up my job at the deli, I went to NYC with my mom for a weekend. It was really hot, but a good weekend all together. We saw lots of art, which was awsome, and we also rushed the musical Spamalot. If you don't know how to rush a show, I high reccomend you do some research and find out! Its a great way to see shows that otherwise would be WAY too expensive. Anyway, outside of the theater they had this display where could stick your face in a hole and you were in a famous Monty Python scene!! Very silly! In case you're wondering, yes that is me and yes, I am a ninny.

I'll TRY (key word here) to get something up and running here in the way of journal pages but I make no promises. I'm also thinking I might have to change what days of the week I update and how often I do it...we may have to cut down to once a week or so, till I get my act together (which isn't very likely...)

So i know we've been on an un-explained hiatus for quite some time, but that will change very shortly.

I'm sorry i've been gone so long, but the end of the school year sucked up all my free time, and then before I knew it summer was upon me, and I had tons to do. Again, i'm sorry.

But do not fret! We'll be back soon with tons of freshly scanned pages!

Our official re-start will be Tuesday Sept. 5th! but I may post some pages here randomly before then.

Before i even started applying to colleges I knew which college I was going to go to. Moore was the first and only choice for me. But even when you KNOW what you're doing with your life, theres still that little bit of you thats unsure. So when I was invited to spend a weekend at Moore with a current Moore student, I was happy to take up the opertunity. In hindsight, it was a good idea to do the Sneak Preview weekend, because I ended up meeting a girl there who is now one of my closer friends here at college.

So yeah...I really like the orange highlighter with the purple paper...

Sorry i missed yesterday...needless to say things have been hectic around here.

Before I started Fine Art IV I had to go through all my work and pull out/create 50 pieces for a massive portfolio review. In doing so, i was forced to rip pages upon pages out of my sketchbook so that I could hand them all in.

Ripping something out of a sketchbook is an awful feeling. Its like ripping a month out of a calendar thats already past...i know that doesn't sound that bad, but not having the ability to look back on the months gone past really bothers me.

Fun fact! The girl isn't crying, she exhausted from tango dancing! But the look on her face seemed to me to be a universal look of pain, so i used it anyway!!

I've been looking forword to this page for weeks! In February of last year my mother and I took a day and went to NYC to see Christo's The Gates. It was a cold day, but a relaly fun one. We ended up in Times Square (my first time!) and I bought a killer watch at the Swatch watch store. I still have the watch and wear it daily (cause i'm a little OCD and always need to know what time it is!).

Why a Swatch watch you ask? Well, in my Jr. year we had an illustration assigment in Fine Arts III to design two swatch watches. Not an especially memorable assignment for me, but that was how i was introduced to the wonderful world of Swatch watchesMadan! They're so much fun!

Side note: I have been watching this video non-stop all day. Its even better if you're not sober.

Once upon a time (not that long ago actually...) I thought I was going to be an Illustrator. I was planning on majoring in it at college, the whole nine yards...but just because you want to be an Illustrator doesn't nessicarily mean you're cut out to be one. So when i was suffering a moment of low self-confidence, I did this entry, using images from an Illustrator I follow Clio Chiang (the piece i used can be found here).

Surprise surprise, I quit the whole Illustrator track and i'm now a Fine Arts major!

The really funny part is that while I was in high school I was absolutly convinced that I would NEVER be a Fine Arts major...and look at me now!

Sorry for the extended absence...the end of the semester is fast appraoching and the student show is going up at Moore this week...so things are just a tad bit stressful here.

The 2nd semester of my senior year I took my very first 3D courses with Souderton's fantastic 3D teacher Mr. L. One of our projects was to take an everyday object and blow it up real big, similar to Claes Oldenburg. I did a large recreation of a seashell, that took me forever to complete, and when I finally did complete it, i took me twice as long to paint it. Technically I never finished painting it and it currently resides in my bedroom closet in Michigan.

Anyone got a good story? I feel like hearing a good story.

What can I say? When you're forced the churn out a page a day, you start to run low on ideas, so you do whatever you can. Sometime earlier that week I had visited Royce Yoder's studio, a local pottery artist and eaten an entire box of pocky. So they ended up in a journal entry.

Theres not much else to say. I mean you can't be fantastic ALL the time...ya know?

The freshman class just got back from our trip to Washington D.C. If any of you guys get the chance, I highly reccomend seeing the Dada show at the National Gallery of Art. I also reccomend sticking around for the performance of George Antheil's score for the Fernand Léger film, Le Ballet mécanique. I found it to be very moving, in a hellish sort of way.

This entry is all about the best day I ever had with my group of friends in Philadelphia. We all went down to the city for the day and it was just a fantastic day. This entry is a compalation of the highlights from that day, which include but is not limited to: A strange man outside Wawa, seeing a real life porn star on South St, getting free stuff at the Mood, and seeing Bride and Predjudice on the big screen.

The best part about this entry is the fact that its actually covered in tracing paper, which can be lifted up to see the collection of images underneith the map of Philadelphia.

I was obessed with Sailor Moon. Full on, hard core, 110% obessed. I had posters, books, movies...i knew almost everything there waas to know about Sailor Moon...I was pretty damn pathedic! I look back on it as a transitional period, and without Sailor Moon I wouldn't have realized how good anime can be (ex. Eva, His and Her Circumstances, Cowboy Bebop, etc.). So i did this entry in memory of my obsession.

I'm confess...I still watch the movies sometimes, but i'm nowhere near as bad as I used to be!

Is anyone actually missing the Sunday updates?

The guy in this entry is Geoffrey Chaucer, the guy who wrote The Canterbury Tales. In English my senior year we read a few selections from the tales and i got really into it, so I did an entry in my journal about it.

I actually went so far as to write a short screen play that adapted The Wife of Bath's Tale into a modern day movie (kinda like 10 things I hate about you is a modern version of The Taming of the Shrew). Someday i plan on making it into a movie, but since i have neither the equipment nor the know how, that project is kinda onhold right now.

Seeing as i'm obviously uncapable of remembering to update on Sundays, I might just drop the day and only update on Tuesdays and Thursdays...but that would be kinda pathedic to give up so early on, wouldn't it?

In my high school we had four art teachers. A basic 2D, a basic 3D and two lower level teachers (for the non-art kids). Mr. L was our 3D teacher, and I didn't get to really meet him until my senior year, but he quickly rose to the top of my "favorite teachers of all time" list.

Every-other day durring 2nd block I was stuck with an 82min study hall, that I was not about to spend sitting in some random class room. So I often spent it down in the art room, hangging with Mr. L and working on random projects I had to get done. I drew this durring one of those times, while Mr. L was working on the wheel.

I really like the purple color in this page and how simplistic, yet effective the compostion is. The angle of Mr. L's back compliment and mirror the squiggles in the upper left hand corner.

...I've been in art school way to fucking long when i start noticing shit like that.

So this is obviously one of the more girly angsty entries I have. As any girl will tell you, she thinks about marrage more often than she would like to admit...and this rule applies to me as well. But, I know its a stupid thing to think about when you're only 18, but it happens none the less.

...so i got angry and bitched about it.

The best part of this is the postcard. I wish I could remember the name of the artist who created the card...but i just can't. Oh well.

Look! Its STILL Thursday! I'm on time!!

Once upon a time I was in an all chick band. We were called the Chicklettes and we were pretty kick ass. I played bass and sang backup when nessicary. It was good times.

Although we were so kick ass, not everyone one in the world realized how kick ass we were. This resulted in us getting 2nd place at the highschool Battle of the Bands, which did not make us happy. The angst of 2nd place is where this entry came from.

Although there is another story that goes with this entry!

Again, once upon a time, I worked in a one screen movie theater. It was awful work and the basement smelled of drying meat, but i did the job of consession stand lacky for a whole year before getting the fuck out. Durring my employment there, i was given ample time to search the theater and discover many hidden treasures. One such treasure turned out to be a box full of pictures.

Apparently, the woman who owned the theater used to own the shop adjacent to the theater and at the time she owned it, the shop was a photo processing place. Now, when someone drops off film to be developed and never picks it up, one would assume such pictures would then be thrown out. But not my boss! That crazy bitch kept all of them...every. last. one. and stuffed them into a box in the basement of the theater. Being the bizare artist I am, i viewed the discovery of this box like the riches found inside a mummy's tomb.

Have you ever heard the saying "Its easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission?" In short, its easier to take the box, steal whatever pictures I wanted and put the box back then to ask my boss if I could have the box.

The beautiful part of the story? I ended up keeping the whole box and she never had a clue.

I did this page about my summer Young Artist Workshop class I took in 2003. It was a Graphic Design & Typography class and on a random field trip we went to the Fabric Workshop and Museum to view a show on wallpaper, which is where the background image comes from.

This page was also done before I realized that you could paint India Ink on photographs instead of nasty ol' acrylic...but I figured it out later! Better late than never...

Again, fuck you Valentines Day...gr.

Again, I know its technically Friday, but i have yet to go to bed...so its still Thursday in my mind!

This one is kinda self-explanitory...I got my licence and that night *poof* I had my first drivng dream! This is one of the best pages in the entire journal in my opinion, and was even later turned into an oil painting in my Fine Arts IV class.

Side note: The drving hands, are my dad's hands! But he is driving what would become my vechicle. Its a 1993 Plymouth Voyager aka a mini van. God I love my car. :D

Over Christmas break I went to my friend's house in MD and we ended up going to the Baltimore Aquarium. At the Aquarium in the Rainforest exhibit there was a bird who didn't seem to notice the fact that there were people everywhere. The good part of this arangement was that I could take many many pictures of the bird.

I have no idea what type of bird this is, but its a bird none-the-less!

This was a random entry I did just to fill up my seven pages a week I had to hand in, so it doesn't really mean all that much. This entry is also one of the few entries in which I blurred out the words, cause this entry was just a little too personal for the internet...but don't worry, there aren't many of these kind of entries in my journal.

The image comes from a Renoir painting that I had sitting on my desk that I was going to use in an art project, but changed my mind at the last minute and used something else. The entry you can't see mostly pertains to falling in and out of love, so don't worry, you're not missing anything all that special.
